Advice on homework

• Homework problems will not be graded. Don't turn them in.
• The problems are chosen to give the minimum amount of practice with important formulas and concepts. More can be done if you feel that you need practice.
• Answers to all odd problems are given in the back of the book.
• Answers to assigned problems, including evens, will be placed on the course web page.
• Show work. Get in the habit of solving problems in this way:
  • Draw a picture to visualize the situation, if appropriate.
  • Write the knowns and unknowns in the problem and assign them to variables.
  • Write down the formula(s) that you think applies to the problem.
  • Use algebra to solve for the unknown variable.
  • Replace the variables with the numbers and units given.
  • Calculate the answer and verify that the units make sense.
• If you're having trouble, you can ask me about it during office hours, or ask the physics tutor for help.
