Advice on homework
- Homework problems will not be graded. Don't turn them in.
- The problems are chosen to give the minimum amount of practice with important
formulas and concepts. More can be done if you feel that you need practice.
- Answers to all odd problems are given in the back of the book.
- Answers to assigned problems, including evens, will be placed on the course
web page.
- Show work. Get in the habit of solving problems in this way:
- Draw a picture to visualize the situation, if appropriate.
- Write the knowns and unknowns in the problem and assign them to variables.
- Write down the formula(s) that you think applies to the problem.
- Use algebra to solve for the unknown variable.
- Replace the variables with the numbers and units given.
- Calculate the answer and verify that the units make sense.
- If you're having trouble, you can ask me about it during office hours, or ask the physics tutor for help.
